My name is Kayla (she/her) also known as “the plant lady”. I have worked in the field for 10 years and most recently have been working in Child and Youth Mental Health. I love working with kids of all ages (currently work with 6 and up) and helping them feel successful, independent, and skillful before we finish working together.
My Experience I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work as well as a Minor in Psychology and a Child Welfare Specialization. I am working on my Masters in Social Work (expected graduation 2028). I am registered with the BC College of Social Workers and I am also a proud member of the BC Association of Social Workers and actively involved in their Northern Branch. I was born and raised in Prince George and I’m a proud alumni of CNC and UNBC.
My Approach I have a very relational approach when it comes to therapy. I have been trained in several clinical modalities including CBT, DBT, EFFT, and more but believe that the relationship and trust built between client and therapist is the most crucial piece to build from. I like to take the time to get to know each person individually and hear what their goals are and use the evidence-based treatment methods that fit best to their needs at the time.
I also enjoy working with parents and caregivers, my favourite approach is EFFT because it offers such an empathetic view towards others as well as ourselves. I believe that children and youth should not carry the burden of change and growth on their own and have seen first hand the power of working on things from both ends of a relationship.
Outside of the Office Most importantly, I am a mother of three beautifully strong-willed children. I have a dog and a cat, I spend most of my time working, volunteering, or cozy at home. I enjoy driving to the lower mainland and Alberta to visit my best friend and my family
