I support children, youth and adults
My name is Kareen Graham and I have lived in Prince George for the past 25 years. I grew up in small logging and fishing towns on Vancouver Island and love the outdoors. I have many years of counselling experience in a variety of settings working with elders, men & women, non-binary people, and youth.
I utilize a gentle, relationship-centred approach that accepts you exactly as you are and recognizes the strengths that you have (even if you can’t see them right now). Using kindness, care, and a wide range of therapeutic styles I support clients to move through difficulties to a place where they feel hopeful and capable of living a good life. I can support people through a variety of issues including substance use, borderline personality disorder, depression, suicidality, self-harm, psychosis, anxiety, PTSD and complex trauma. Having spent many years providing counselling in rural First Nations communities, I feel that I am able to provide culturally-sensitive care to people of Indigenous ancestry. I have experience working with queer folk including those navigating gender transition and welcome the 2SLGBTQIA community into my practice.
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Youth Care and Master’s Degree in Counselling. I have also raised 3 wonderful kids. They have educated me as much as any formal learning. They have been my best teachers and I am grateful for all the gentle (and not so gentle!) ways that they helped me grow into my role as a parent and understand the issues facing our youth today.
I live with gratitude and happiness, and with respect for all members of my community. Interesting things I have done include making deer sausages from scratch, going to Old Time Fiddlers dances, rebuilding 3 vintage trailers and serving many, many meals at the St. Vincent de Paul society. My favourite quote came from a client: “There are better things ahead than any we leave behind.”
