Cognitive Reframing

Feb 2, 2022 | Helpful Tips

Cognitive reframing means looking at your thoughts and shifting the negative ones by seeing them from a different perspective. By looking at them another way you may see that you are assuming things to be true that are not, being unfair to your self, labeling yourself, over-generalizing, and so much more.

From: I’m lazy.
To: I’ve been avoiding doing my work because I have been so overwhelmed lately.

From: I’m so dumb.
To: I made amistake. This does not reflect who I am at my core.

From: Nobody will like me.
To: This is my anxiety talking. I am fortune telling a situation that hasn’t happened.

From: I’m going to end up alone.
To: I’m strong enough to know what is best for me and not settle for less than my worth.

Our minds are smart, but sometimes not in a way that is helpful to us. When we think certain things, our brains try to find all the evidence to prove ourselves right. This can be dangerous when we are trying to prove these unfair untrue statements that we put on ourselves!
